As many of you know, several weeks ago NHMC and GLAAD filed a joint complaint with the FCC against KRCA TV for its broadcast of the Spanish-language talk show, “Jose Luis Sin Censura.”  To get a taste of what this show entails, please watch the short video here (warning – the content in this video is not suitable for work): http://nhmc.org/joseluissincensura

“Jose Luis Sin Censura” is a pre-taped show that airs twice a day in 21 of the top 25 Latino markets.  It is estimated to reach 77% of U.S. Spanish-speaking households.  It is broadcast once in the late morning and again in the afternoon – at times when children are likely to be in the audience.  As the video demonstrates, violence against LGBT folks, women, immigrants and others are the regular order, along with a large dose of nudity and profanity.  This is much worse than a fleeting expletive on an awards program (which the FCC has gone to great lengths to punish, and to defend its decision in court) – “Jose Luis” takes advantage of the fact that the FCC lacks the language skills and cultural competency to adequately enforce its rules in Spanish.  As you can see in the video, there is language and nudity that one never sees on English-language television.

Please support us.  Sign your organization on to the attached letter by responding to [email protected] (cc’d above) by COB on MONDAY, MARCH 21st.

If you have time, please take two minutes to send your individual concerns to the FCC at http://nhmc.org/joseluissincensura and/or by signing our change.org petition at http://www.change.org/petitions/help-put-a-stop-to-anti-lgbt-attacks-on-the-spanish-language-program-jose-luis-sin-censura#?opt_new=t

In the weeks since we filed the complaint, KRCA has continued to brazenly air this program while refusing to comment on our complaint.  We have no choice but to continue to hold their feet to the fire
