Last week, members of the Media Action Grassroots Network alongside Consumers Union, Free Press, Common Cause, and the Media Mobilizing Project hosted a protest outside of the Comcast Shareholders meeting in Philadelphia, PA to oppose their proposed merger with Time Warner Cable.

The protest, The People Vote: Stop the Comcast Mega-Merger, invited members of the Philadelphia community to join the over 400,000 people who have signed petitions opposing the merger.  This public “vote” declared a resounding NO to any further media consolidation.  Speakers at the event, including MAG-Net’s National Organizer–Steven Renderos, elevated how marginalized communities stand to lose the most through this merger:

“Our members all the way from rural Appalachia, Albuquerque NM, Minneapolis MN, Oakland CA, AND BEYOND know that this merger will lead to two things. More money in their pockets and less money in ours.”

MAG-Net members across the country, joined in on the vote through a social media action on Instagram.  Check out some of the images and follow us.  Lastly, check out all the great media coverage this protest received:
