Support one of our strongest MAG-Net members, Quote Unquote in Albuquerque, New Mexico!
There are three ways YOU CAN HELP SAVE one of our strongest MAG-Net members, Quote Unquote, a 30 year-old Community Access media center providing a media platform for local communities and social justice groups in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The city offered their long standing contract to another organization that has no roots to communities who need access to the airwaves the most:
1) Sign the Petition and spread the word to your colleagues, allies, friends and family and through social media
2) Write your own letter from your organization telling the City Mayor how vital Quote Unquote is to the community and social justice movements. This is not only a local fight but has a national impact and could set a devastating precedent for other community media centers in the future.

We are pleased to welcome the Institute of Popular Education of Southern California (IDEPSCA) as the new L.A. anchor. Read our official press release here. MAG-Net, IDEPSCA, and CMJ will be co-sponsoring an L.A. Media Justice Academy on November 17th, the training will feature communications 101 training, a hands-on mobile storytelling workshop, and media justice landscaping. This event is a part of a larger effort to build a strong LA MAG-Net chapter. Get more info and register here.
Betty Yu (MAG-Net National Organizer), and Brittney Saunders (the Center for Social Inclusion) will be presenting a panel on “Creating Sustainable Community-Owned Broadband Networks & Advancing Economic Justice” at The North American Students of Cooperation (NASCO) Institute on November 5th.
MAG-Net member Reel Grrls is releasing a Media Justice DVD compilation – MAG-Net played an advisory role in it. We’ll get you more information on that in the next month.

We have a historic opportunity now to increase minority ownership of media outlets and empower Hispanic communities. Join Prometheus Radio Project and people across the country for this exclusive Spanish-language webinar to learn how you can start your own community radio station! A newly passed law will allow nonprofits and community groups to apply for a brand new community radio station licenses as soon as next summer.
These noncommercial stations are controlled locally to amplify local voices and views in multiple languages. They can serve as multimedia community centers to engage the local and global community in creative new ways.
Representatives from two existing community radio stations will also join the call to share their experiences using community radio as a tool to engage and empower the Hispanic community. Erubiel Carranza works with KPCN, the station of the Northwest Treeplanters and Farmworkers United in Woodburn, Oregon. Olga Herrera, of KYRS in Spokane, Washington has hosted a Spanish-language show for the last three years, Latitude, a radio program about sharing intercultural experiences among the Hispanic community and all those attracted to Hispanic culture.

This month’s Digital Dialogue will feature the strategies that artists and arts & culture organizations have been using to amplify the growing 99Percent Movement.
In the U.S., the hardest hit communities, historically disenfranchised people representing the 99%, have been organizing for many years to organize for racial, economic and social justice. These communities understand the power of arts and culture and have used it effectively in their organizing and movement building work.
In the last six weeks, cultural workers and artists from social justice organizations, working class, immigrant and communities of color have worked hard to use these same platforms to unify the hearts and minds of the 99%. Arts and culture working groups have been springing up in virtually every local 99Percent action. They have been engaged in a wide array of artistic mediums, everything from music, independent newspapers, videos, poster art, fine art, poetry, performance, theater and dance just to name a few.
