The fight against Big Tech is happening in hundreds of towns at once. MediaJustice’s convenings make sure these flashpoints of local resistance are woven together into one fight and one story, supported by the levers of influence and expertise needed to win.
Every two years, MediaJustice and Mijente host the largest gathering of organizers fighting tech power in the country at Take Back Tech. There, the neighbor leading a campaign against a data center sits next to the immigrant rights organizer, the tech worker, and writers like Naomi Klein, Gil Duran and Dr. Safiya Noble. People leave with shared analysis, new collaborations, and deeper relationships with each other.
We also host convenings that build the capacity of the field to support organizing. That looks like organizing with journalists, funders, elected and policymakers. We socialize interventions and analysis so that the ecosystem can back the folks on the frontlines, especially people of color.
That’s why we’re hosting conversations like Cracking the Empire with Karen Hao, NYT Bestselling author of Empire of AI, alongside organizers from the Texas Panhandle, Memphis, and Tuscon. That’s why we are out at Oakland Tech Week, anchoring programming to challenge Big Tech’s racist ideology.
