As part of Oakland Tech Week, MediaJustice and Kapor Center will host a series of events for organizers and technologists fighting for a just tech future distinct from Silicon Valley and representative of Oakland’s needs. We’ll foster a space to build relationships, develop shared analysis, and learn from organizers across the Bay fighting surveillance tech and data centers.
On the evening of September 29th, we’re hosting a film screening of Ghost in the Machine, the documentary that has shaped our collective analysis of AI and its history. We’ll also convene a panel of organizers and visionaries who will break down who’s building AI, whose labor makes it possible, and who gets to shape its future.
Then, on September 30th, join MediaJustice for a private half-day convening focused on how we can fight the Tech Broligarchy’s incursion into Oakland and develop a tech future that aligns with racial, gender and economic justice. From presentations to group strategy sessions, and closing with a happy hour, the event will bridge connections across the Bay, generate ideas for collaboration, and support organizing strategy leading up to the midterms.
