This summer, reporting from The Intercept and Wired indicated that the U.S. government is now tracking people who fight data centers as part of a new, broad designation called “anti-tech violent extremists.” This designation places individuals fighting tech infrastructure under the thumb of state surveillance, a clear escalation of Big Tech’s tactics to secure their power in the face of grassroots resistance.
MediaJustice hosted a teach-in called “Manufactured Threat” for organizers and funders to understand what this new designation means, contextualize it with the history of the US’ War on Terror, and create consensus on how to move forward. For a quick primer, watch the three takeaways video.
