For Vox’s ReCode, Rani Molla explores the increasing popularity of home surveillance devices like Amazon’s Ring video doorbell, and the accompanying “fear-based social media” apps which encourage neighbors to spy on each other by reporting “suspicious” activity. Our own Steven Renderos makes the connection between these apps and the risks posed for communities of color already targeted by the police:
