National Grassroots Leader Endorses Reported White House Nominees for the Federal Communications Commission

Today, media reports indicate that the Biden Administration plans to nominate Jessica Rosenworcel, current commissioner at the Federal Communications Commission, to permanently chair the FCC and long-time public advocate Gigi Sohn to serve as an FCC commissioner.

Said Brandon Forester, national organizer for internet rights and platform accountability at MediaJustice:

“There is no better time than now to ensure that the Federal Communications Commission has FCC Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel at the helm and dedicated public advocate Gigi Sohn as an FCC commissioner. MediaJustice is proud to have worked for years with both of these leaders in the fight for a just and participatory media. Combined with the continued service of FCC Commissioner Geoffrey Starks, these three individuals could have an incredible impact on setting regulations that respect and advance the rights of Black and brown communities in this digital age.

“Commissioner Rosenworcel has been a stalwart ally for students, pushing for needed changes that will keep them connected and learning. Gigi Sohn is a highly qualified expert in communications policy who has always worked toward holding powerful institutions accountable to the public in communications policy. Together, we can further the public interest in communications access and mitigate the vast racial disparities that exist in the way we work, learn and thrive in our digital environment. We urge the U.S. Senate to confirm the nominations of Commissioner Rosenworcel and Gigi Sohn as quickly as possible.”
