St. Paul Neighborhood Network

SPNN is a 501(c)(3) non-profit community media center serving Saint Paul, MN and the Twin Cities metro area. Our mission is to empower people to use media and communications to better lives, use authentic voice and build common understanding. We operate five channels on the Comcast cable system, which reach 52,000 cable households in Saint Paul.

The People’s Press Project

The People’s Press Project (PPP) is Fargo-Moorhead’s only non-profit dedicated to empowering the community to impart media, rather than being consumers of media. We stand for the development and proliferation of Independent Media and the creation of new community based journalists to inform the community of the real news by the people and for the people. We do this through training, access to equipment and strategic opportunities to develop media through Independent news sources, Social Networks and through the web.

Open Access Connections

The mission of Open Access Connections is to bridge the phone access gap of low-income and homeless people by facilitating communication services. Our goal is to find innovative ways to use communication technologies to provide opportunities for people in need, to forge new connections to the community, and to one another. These connections enhance dignity, foster independence, and contribute to success.

Working Narratives

We work with movements to tell great stories that inspire, activate and enliven our democracy. We believe that social movements thrive and win when they draw on participants’ personal experiences and local cultures. By telling stories—whether in the form of performance, radio, video, or other media—movements build power, envision new democratic possibilities, and change culture and policy. Our work is located at the intersection of arts, technology, and policy.

Generation Justice

Generation Justice (GJ) is a multiracial, multicultural project that trains youth to harness the power of community and raise critical consciousness through leadership development, civic engagement, media production and narrative shift in the areas that most impact New Mexicans- racial justice, health, education, early childhood development, and economic security.

Common Frequency

Common Frequency is a nonprofit dedicated to innovative new community and college radio. By providing free and low-cost aid to regular people educating themselves to be the media, Common Frequency has been supporting the launch of grassroots stations since 2006.

Making Contact

Making Contact is an award-winning, 29-minute weekly magazine/documentary-style public affairs program heard on 151 radio stations in the USA, Canada, South Africa and Ireland. Our work heightens public consciousness, broadens debate on critical social issues and encourages civic participation, by giving voice to diverse perspectives and opinions overlooked or ignored in corporate media. Our goal is to produce media that informs, inspires, and moves people to take action.

Prometheus Radio Project

The Prometheus Radio Project is a non-profit organization founded by a small group of radio activists in 1998. Prometheus builds, supports and advocates for community radio stations that bring together and empower local, participatory voices and movements for social change. To that end, we demystify technologies, the political process that governs access to our media system, and the effects of media on our lives and our communities.
