The Media Action Grassroots Network rocks! And it's because of the member organizations working hard everyday to advance a new vision for media rights and access for families and communities.
Institute for Local Self-Reliance (ILSR) has been working since 1974 as a champion for local self-reliance, a strategy that underscores the need for humanly scaled institutions and economies and the widest possible distribution of ownership. ILSR works with citizens, activists, policymakers and entrepreneurs to design systems, policies and enterprises that meet local or regional needs; to maximize human, material, natural and financial resources; and to ensure that the benefits of these systems and resources accrue to all local citizens.
Just recently, ILSR was named "Community Broadband Organization of the Year" by the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA). This honor is awarded to exceptional leaders and innovative programs that champion community interests and broadband deployment in local communities nationwide. Recipients will receive their awards at NATOA’s 32nd Annual Conference, to be held in New Orleans, LA later this month.
