On Tuesday June 2, and June 3, 2010, CMJ hosted a two digital dialogs with some core allies to get ready for the US Social Forum.
The first call brought together an initial group of communications organizers and strategists to landscape social movement narratives and goals. (There were some technical difficulties that didn’t allow for a few key leaders to get on the call – Makani Themba-Nixon and Charlotte Ryan, for example.) I think I can speak for the group and say that we are excited for this historic gathering and invite our allies and friends to continue this process with us.

One of the early outcomes of this process is an idea to create a “justice communications working group” to strategize, analyze and monitor movement narratives and frames.
We’re asking all our allies and friends to join us in this process to continue build the justice communications field and to integrate collaborative, creative, and strategic storytelling as a core movement building strategy for political, cultural, and social change.

One of the early takeaways from this process has been just how much media consolidation and ISP control over the pipes we use to communicate impact social movement’s narrative power.
