MediaJustice

MediaJustice partnered with Stop LAPD Spying Coalition in late August to co-host an organizer convening in Los Angeles, bringing together 25+ organizers in the SoCal region fighting TechnoFascism. Together, we bridged relationships across the region, built a shared analysis of Big Tech’s agenda, and collectively determined what public safety would look like as right wing actors start to oppose surveillance technology.

Attendees from Mar Vista Voice, a Westside community organization, summed up their experience in a recap blog post.

“Los Angeles has something that many communities across the country facing these technologies do not: an expansive network of community organizers, legal advocates, neighborhood groups, and mutual aid networks [….] As one MediaJustice representative emphasized, that power comes with a responsibility to lead this fight – to take on Big Tech at ground zero.”

What’s next? The region needs coordinated political education, research and power mapping. Community members need resources in Spanish, narrative training, and more shared resources, like calendars to coordinate actions. We’re hosting another virtual meeting in early October.
