MediaJustice and Kapor Center will be hosting a series of events for organizers and technologists who are fighting for a future where Oakland’s tech path is distinct from Silicon Valley, and representative of what Oakland’s people actually need. To do this, we’ll provide space to build relationships, develop shared analysis, and learn from organizers fighting surveillance tech and data centers, and building tech alternatives.
On the evening of September 29th, we’re hosting a film screening of Ghost in the Machine, the AI documentary that has shaped our collective analysis of AI and its history. A panel of organizers and visionaries will discuss the film at The New Parkway Theater.
Then, on September 30th, join MediaJustice for a private half-day convening focused on how we can fight the tech oligarchy’s incursion into Oakland and develop a tech future that aligns with racial, gender and economic justice. From presentations to group strategy sessions, closing with a happy hour, the event will build connection, generate ideas for collaboration, and support organizing strategy leading up to the midterms.
