In Seattle, many of us gather every year at Garfield High School in the Central District (CD) for our community's largest tribute to the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The MLK Seattle Celebration Committee, organizes workshops to open the day, followed by a rally, march and Ezell's Fried Chicken lunch back at Garfield. The Committee reports that 5,000 people came out to the celebration and 2,000 marched.
MAG-Net Seattle partners Hidmo, OneAmerica, and Brown Paper Tickets gave out hot chocolate with justice – media justice through low power FM! Okay, they were actually just hot cocoa with flyers for our January 24th Seattle/King County LPFM information session at Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute.
We also rented a button maker and people came by the booth to make their own by coloring in little symbols of radio making (headphones, little vintage 80's radios, and lightning bolts (very popular – you know, radio waves are cute).
